Meet Our Doctors
Dr. Joseph Raczek
Dr. Joseph Raczek grew up in Dunkirk, NY, a small city on Lake Erie near Buffalo. He attended Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana, where he completed his undergraduate work and earned his O.D. degree in 1980. He served as Chief of Optometric Services at Hanscom Air Force Base in Lexington, MA from June 1980 until December 1984. He then became Chief of Optometric Services at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea in 1984, and Dover AFB in Dover, DE, from January 1985 until February 1986.
After leaving the Air Force in early 1986, Dr. Raczek moved to New Hampshire and bought a small optical business after working in it for a few months. After 18 years at the same location (180 Elm Street) Dr. Raczek moved the practice to it’s present location in an old federal style building at 380 Nashua Street.
Dr. Raczek is a single father. He lives in Amherst with his wonderful “not so little anymore” daughter Paige, who loves learning and attends the Amherst Middle School.
Dr. Raczek is licensed both in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. He is a 33 year member of the New Hampshire Optometric Association and has served on its board of directors and chaired numerous committees. He was the president of the NHOA in 2011 and currently serves as its Third Party Committee chairman. He is an active participant with VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services for Humanity) and has participated in seven missions to provide eye care in developing countries, including trips to Nicaragua each year from 2005 to 2009. He is also a long-time member of the Milford Rotary Club and served as president from 2001-02. Dr. Raczek has received numerous awards including the Souhegan Valley Chamber of Commerce Business Leader of the Year in 2006 and the NHOA Optometrist of the Year in 2008. He was also named a fellow of the Lions Eye Foundation in 2009 for his work with the State of New Hampshire Medicaid system.
Meet Our Staff
Business Manager/Registered Ophthalmic Dispenser
Rachel Dechane‘s job title is business manager. However, her typical day can involve dealing with insurance companies, re networking our computers, fixing office equipment, helping individuals select glasses, ordering contact lenses, coordinating with sales reps, developing reports, assisting patients with paperwork, and … more. In our practice, the job description “business manager” is very broad!! Rachel excels in all these areas, and more. Rachel has been with our practice since 2000. She is a registered Ophthalmic Dispenser and is a member of the New Hampshire Optician’s Society. She grew up in Milford, graduated from Milford High School, and lives in Milford with her husband Ian.
Optician/Registered Ophthalmic Dispenser
Lesley Day has been with our practice since 2012. She is trained as an Optician and is a Registered Ophthalmic Dispenser and a member of the New Hampshire Optician’s Society. She works in our lab inspecting glasses, working on repairs, ordering and tracking glasses and contact lens orders, and is the one who will help you find your perfect pair of glasses. Lesley has had extensive training in Special Education and is certified in Advanced Behavioral Analysis. She has extensive experience working with autistic children at the elementary school level, and she worked with special needs children at the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center for four years. During this time she created a game to help these kids learn which she hopes will be published soon. Lesley has a knack for the culinary arts and has her delectable candies available at The Picket Fence in Mont Vernon.
Lesley lives in Mont Vernon with her husband Chip in a house they built from the ground up. They have two sons, Jerid and Jordan, and three grandchildren, Grace Lilian, Liam Patrick and Jase.
Sara Dunton, our part time optician, has been part of our team since the spring of 2014. Her duties include inspecting glasses, repairing frames, dispensing and fitting glasses to our patients, and helping find the right frame for your lifestyle. Sara graduated from the technical college in Nashua with a degree in Opticianry. She decided to become an optician because throughout her life of wearing glasses no one was ever able to adjust them to make them feel comfortable; therefore, she was determined to learn it for herself.
Sara has worked in the optical field, mostly as a manager at Cohen’s Fashion Optical, since the mid 1990’s and still loves opticianry today.
Sara lives in Brookline with her husband Tim and cat Fuzzy Butt. She enjoys outdoor activities such as kayaking and hiking (waterfall hikes are the best!), as well as indoor activities like crocheting and beading.
Our Support Staff
We have three other staff who work at the “front desk”; however that just means their workstation is at the front desk. Their duties include almost anything that has to be done in the office: answering the phone; making appointments; pretesting; running specialty tests; teaching contact lens insertion and removal; and doing whatever else has to be done to make our office run smoothly.
Kay McDonough moved to New Hampshire in June of 2020 from Downeast Maine where she worked in a general optometry practice. She lives in Milford with her 22 year old daughter.
Kelli-Ann Pere lives in Pepperell, Ma. and formerly worked at Nashua Eye Associates in the contact lens department. She has three kids ages 14, 11, and 7. In her free time she loves to vacation and go to the beach with her family.
Carrie Young graduated from Emerson College in May 2021 with a BS in Sports Communications. She grew up in Merrimack, New Hampshire and now lives in Nashua and has been a patient of Dr. Raczek since she was seven years old. In her free time, Carrie plays the piano and is an avid sports fan.
